An Abilene man died tragically last Thursday afternoon, following an 18-wheeler crash just outside of Millersview, Texas.
Deadly Collision Triggered when 18-Wheeler Driver Ran Stop Sign
Police were called to the scene of the accident shortly before 5:00 p.m. on June 28th.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2001 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Luis Alberto Vega-Reyes, 48, of Miami, Florida, was travelling on FM 765, about 8 miles west of Millersview.
Vega-Reyes disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of FM 765 and U.S. Highway 83.
A 2005 Freightliner traveling south on 83 struck the Peterbilt truck as it was crossing the intersection, pushing the rig into the northbound lane of 83.
Victim Pronounced Dead at Scene
A 2018 Chrysler van travelling north on 83 then collided head-on with the Freightliner.
The driver of the Chrysler van, Michael L. Vandervoort, 66, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vega-Reyes suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
Police continue to investigate the deadly accident and have not yet issued any citations.
