Dashcam video of last month’s fatal plane crash near Dallas, Texas, is shedding new light on the doomed flight’s final horrific seconds.
Addison Plane Crash Killed All 10 People Aboard
The Beechcraft BE-350 King Air careened into an empty hangar on the morning of June 30th, almost immediately after leaving the runway at Addison Municipal Airport.
Tragically, all 10 people aboard – two pilots, three couples, and two teenagers – perished when the twin-engine aircraft went down.
Airplane Crash Video Obtained from City of Addison
Local media outlets later filed an open records request seeking crash footage from the various video cameras posted in and around Addison Municipal Airport. The City of Addison ultimately agreed to the request, and released the videos Monday night.
Footage from a closed-circuit security camera stationed outside the airport captured the plane leaving the runway around 9:10 a.m. It’s clear from the video, however, that the aircraft was unable to climb above the trees.
A second video from a dashcam located in the parking lot of a nearby fire station shows the airplane rolling to the left before becoming completely inverted. Then the awful moment of impact, as it collides with the hangar in a ball of flame.
NTSB Investigators Looking at Possible Engine Problem
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) continues to investigate the deadly Addison plane crash.
According to the Board’s preliminary report, a witness said the plane was unusually quiet on the trip down the runway and suggested it lacked sufficient power to take off.
Cockpit voice recordings also indicated the pilots discussed a left engine problem during the flight’s last few seconds.
A left engine issue could account for the aircraft’s failure to gain altitude upon take-off, as well as the manner in which it rolled before crashing into the hangar.
