A 56-year-old worker died tragically yesterday morning, following an equipment explosion at Procter & Gamble’s Tide detergent plant in Pineville, Louisiana.
Procter & Gamble Explosion May Have Involved a Forklift
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on May 24th, at the Procter & Gamble manufacturing facility located at 3701 Monroe Highway in Rapides Parish, just outside of Alexandria.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the explosion involved a forklift.
The equipment’s driver was killed in the blast. He has been identified as Allen Kendrick of Jena.
The explosion was contained to the equipment and no other injuries were reported.
Deceased Worker was Well-Known in His Community
According to KALB, Kendrick was well-known in Jena, having served as director of the LaSalle Parish Community Choir. He had previously worked as the band director at Jena High School and was a member of a community theater group called “Acting Up”.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the P&G Product Supply Family passed away at our Alexandria manufacturing facility in a tragic accident during the early morning hours of May 24, 2018,” plant manager Frank Blumlin said in a statement issued Thursday. “The safety of our employees is a top priority, and there is an investigation underway at this time.”
State and Federal Officials Investigating Procter & Gamble Explosion
State officials are investigating the explosion to determine its cause.
Federal investigators from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration were also called to the scene.
The Procter & Gamble plant in Pineville is one of the area’s largest employers and produces Tide Pods, as well as Tide liquid laundry detergent.
Yesterday’s tragic accident marked the facility’s first death in its 49-year-history.
