Deadly Explosion at Ward County, Texas Compressor Station Tragically Kills Oilfield Worker, Injures 2 Others

 

An oilfield worker from New Mexico died tragically on Friday in connection with a compressor station explosion in Ward County, Texas.

The July 27th explosion occurred around 10:00 a.m. at a site roughly 10 miles south of Monahans.

Jesus Levario of Anthony, New Mexico, died in the blast.

Injured Worker Remains Hospitalized

Two others workers were injured. One victim remains in a Lubbock area hospital but is said to be improving.

A second worker taken to a Ward County hospital has since been released.

It’s not clear what caused the deadly blast.

State and local officials have not identified the owner of the site or the employer of the deceased and injured workers.

Monahans Explosion 3rd Serious Incident at U.S. Oilfield This Month

Friday’s explosion near Monahans, Texas marks the third time this month that workers were killed or injured at an oilfield in the United States.

On July 19th, a tank battery explosion at a WPX Energy refinery outside of Loving, New Mexico killed one contract worker and injured another.

A day earlier, 3 oilfield workers suffered burns when a series of fiery explosions erupted at a Devon Energy saltwater disposal site in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.

Both of those incidents remain under investigation.
