A 79-year-old woman died tragically on Monday after a water delivery truck blew through a red light at a northwest Houston intersection.
3 Vehicles Involved in Houston Delivery Truck Accident
The deadly May 20th crash occurred around 11:30 a.m., at the intersection of the Northwest Freeway feeder road and North Gessner Road.
According to witnesses, a ReadyRefresh delivery truck failed to stop for the traffic signal as it entered the intersection from the westbound side of the feeder road. The truck then T-boned a silver GMC Sierra pickup traveling north on Gessner, pushing that vehicle into the path of a southbound Toyota Avalon.
The Sierra driver and his female passenger apparently became trapped inside the mangled pickup. Before firefighters could extract either one, a wrecker had to pull the delivery truck away from their vehicle.
Pickup Truck Driver and Passenger Rushed to Nearby Hospital
Paramedics rushed the woman from the accident scene, but she later died at a nearby hospital.
Although her companion survived, he suffered life-threatening injuries. So far, Houston authorities have not revealed the man’s identity or commented on his condition.
The delivery truck and Toyota drivers escaped injury.
ReadyRefresh Truck Crash Remains Under Investigation
ReadyRefresh is a water and beverage delivery service operated by Nestle Waters North America.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the individual who lost their life, and everyone who was involved in the accident,” the company said in a statement issued Monday afternoon. “At Nestlé Waters North America, safety is one of our top priorities, and we are investigating the matter further to understand what happened. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement.”
Houston police will be looking at camera footage from the delivery truck cab as part of their accident investigation. According to ABC13, the driver will likely face a citation and possibly additional charges.
