One person was tragically killed and dozens of others were injured Tuesday afternoon, after a work bus crashed along Highway 36 in Freeport, Texas.
Bus Flipped Several Times Before Crashing into Brazos River
The bus was transporting about 30 construction workers from the Zachry Industrial plant to an off-site parking lot, when it fishtailed just before 3:00 p.m. near the Highway 288 entrance ramp.
The driver over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to flip several times before it finally rolled down an embankment and into the Brazos River.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The bus driver told authorities that he was travelling about 60 mph and had attempted a lane change just before the vehicle fishtailed.
Dayton Man Died at Scene, Fellow Workers Taken to Area Hospitals
A 29-year-old Dayton man was pronounced dead at the scene.
One person was transferred via LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Authorities have not released any details about that individual’s injuries or current condition.
All other passengers were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Lake Jackson for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unclear.
