A woman from Georgia and her 3 children were tragically killed in connection with a horrific multi-vehicle collision along 1-10 near Beaumont, Texas.
At Least 15 Injured in Fiery Chain-Reaction Crash
The fiery crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. on I-10 West, near South Major Drive.
At least 8 vehicles – including an 18-wheeler – were involved in the wreck.
The 36-year-old woman and her 3 children, ages 10, 8, and 6, were pronounced dead at the scene.
At least 15 others were injured.
Earlier I-10 Wreck May Have Contributed to Chain-Reaction Crash
It’s not clear exactly what led to the tragic collision.
However, according to Beaumont Police, an earlier fatal accident further up I-10 had caused traffic to slow, likely contributing to the later chain-reaction crash.
That accident occurred at roughly 4:00 a.m., when a pickup truck slammed into the back of another 18-wheeler near Goodyear.
The 45-year-old driver of the pickup died at the scene.
Stretch of I-10 Sees Heavy Truck Traffic, Frequent Accidents
According to the Beaumont Enterprise, the area of I-10 where Thursday’s fatal crashes occurred sees a high volume of commercial truck traffic.
Heavy fog was blamed for a 100-plus-vehicle crash along the same stretch near Hamshire Road that left 2 people dead.
Narrow lanes from ongoing construction projects have added to the danger.
