A Texas woman died tragically yesterday morning after an 18-wheeler triggered a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 10 in Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana.
18-Wheeler Driver Failed to Reduce Speed in Rainstorm
The July 12th accident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the midst of a rainstorm about one mile west of LA 99 near Welsh.
According to the Louisiana State Police, a 2007 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by a 67-year-old Lake Charles man was heading east on I-10 when it encountered congestion near mile-marker 54. The trucker failed to reduce his speed and collided with the rear of a 2017 Hyundai Sonata.
The 18-wheeler then veered to the right and struck the rear of a 2015 Mazda CX-5 that was stopped on the roadway due to the congestion. The impact of the crash also caused the Hyundai Sonata to strike an eastbound 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Pearland, Texas, Woman Died in Louisiana 18-Wheler Crash
A passenger in the Mazda, identified as a 66-year-old woman from Pearland, Texas, was taken to a hospital in Jennings but died shortly after arriving.
The driver and other occupants of the Mazda suffered moderate injuries, while the truck driver and Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Santa Fe drivers sustained minor injuries.
Monday morning’s accident remains under investigation. The truck driver has submitted a toxicology sample for analysis.
