In 1997, Norcold, Inc. began manufacturing gas absorption refrigerators for use on Recreational Vehicles ( “RVs”).
Unfortunately, many of the refrigerators are dangerously and defectively designed, leading to over 2,500 fires that have caused serious—and sometimes fatal—burns and millions of dollars in property damage.
As a result, Norcold began recalling the defective RV refrigerators in 2000. The recall, however, failed to correct the dangerous defect, making continued use of the Norcold RV Refrigerators a serious and potentially deadly hazard.
In fact, based on Norcold’s own documents, it appears that between 5 and 10 Norcold Refrigerator catch fire each week, many of which have caused serious personal injuries and substantial property damage.

Norcold’s Recall Fails to Prevent Spontaneous Fires
Initially, Norcold claimed that installation of a “High Temperature Sensor” would prevent any chance of fires by keeping the units cool.
But, even after the installation of the “high temperature sensor,” many refrigerators continued to catch fire and cause serious personal injuries and property damage. As a result, the company later announced that even refrigerators with the “high temperature sensors” could still be dangerous because of the significant risk of overheating.

According to Norcold, if your model’s serial number falls within the range listed above, the refrigerator’s gas valve must be replaced immediately. Without the replacement part, continued use of the refrigerator could cause it to catch on fire, resulting in serious injury or even death.
