18-Wheeler was Approaching Slower Moving Traffic
The violent three-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. near mile-marker 137. According to the City of Midland Police Department, a white F250 pickup truck and blue Republic Services garbage truck were heading west on I-20 at an extremely slow rate of speed because of a traffic jam at the Lamesa overpass.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., a blue Kenworth semi-truck in the outside lane of I-20 westbound approached the much slower moving traffic. Although the 18-wheeler driver attempted to make a left-hand lane change to avoid the crash, the maneuver was unsuccessful and the rig slammed into thttps://meet.google.com/inw-vazc-hhnhe left rear of the garbage truck.
The impact of that collision pushed the garbage truck into the back of the F250 pickup. The garbage truck then spun sideways and rolled over before coming to rest on the westbound shoulder of I-20.
Semi-Truck Driver, Passenger Died at Accident Scene
Sadly, the 18-wheeler driver and his passenger died at the accident scene. Their identities have not been released pending family notification.
Media reports indicate the drivers of the pickup and garbage trucks were seen walking around the crash site. It does not appear that either individual suffered any injuries.
The Midland police continue to investigate the April 7th accident. So far, it’s not clear if any charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
