More than two dozen people were injured earlier this week when a Megabus crashed along I-95 south near Baltimore, Maryland.
47 Passengers Aboard Washington D.C.-Bound Megabus
The May 22th accident occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m. as the Megabus was en route from New York City to Washington, D.C., with 47 passengers aboard.
According to the Maryland State Police, the bus had been traveling in the right lane when the driver swerved to avoid another vehicle. The driver lost control during the maneuver, causing the bus to run off the road and overturn.
Baltimore County and Harford County fire and EMS crews responded to the accident, which was declared a “mass casualty event.”
27 Injured, 14 Passengers and Megabus Driver Taken to Hospital
While there were no fatalities, 27 people were injured, including 15 taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to a spokesperson for Megabus, the driver was among those hospitalized. The nature of the injuries remains unclear, but none were life-threatening. All of those hospitalized had been released as of Sunday night.
“Our top priority is the safety of customers and employees,” a Megabus spokesperson told The Washington Post. “As is customary with these events, we will be doing a thorough review — but at this time do not have comment on the circumstances.”
The Megabus crash remains under investigation. So far, it does not appear that intoxication or driver distraction were factors in the accident. No charges have been filed at this time.
