A forklift accident at an Alabama steel plant resulted in the tragic death of a Texas contractor earlier this week.
Forklift Accident Occurred in Nucor Steel Plant’s Hot Mill
First responders were called to the Nucor Steel facility at 4301 Iverson Boulevard in Trinity around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 20th. According to the Decatur Police, the contractor was in the plant’s hot mill when the accident occurred.
“We know there was a forklift being moved onto or off of a trailer and at some point. it struck him or ran him over,” Chris Phillips with Decatur Fire. “The details are unclear.”
Contractor Worked for Delta Fabrication & Machine
Air transport was requested, but both available services declined due to weather, resulting in the victim’s transfer to Huntsville Hospital via ambulance. Although he was conscious and responsive during transport, the man’s condition deteriorated, and he later died at the hospital.
The deceased contractor has since been identified as an employee of Delta Fabrication & Machine, a company based in Daingerfield, Texas.
Monday’s fatal forklift accident remains under investigation.
