A contractor was injured yesterday morning when an oil storage tank blew up just south of Monroe, Louisiana.
Vapors Entered Oil Tank, Setting Off Explosion
The June 4th explosion erupted shortly before 10:30 a.m. at a storage facility located near Jackson Street and down the road from Ochsner LSU hospital.
According to the Ouachita Parish Fire Department, the contractor was one of three working to reinforce concrete at the bottom of several tanks owned by Environmental Oil Recovery, Inc. The crew was in the process of removing part of a vapor line when vapors apparently entered one of the tanks and came into contact with sparks, triggering the blast.
The injured worker was rushed to the hospital. So far, however, authorities have not released his name, identified his employer or commented on his current condition.
