Undefeated Texas Work Accident Lawyers
A construction worker lost his life in a tragic accident yesterday when a boom truck collapsed in a road work zone in Dickinson, Texas.
Worker Crushed by Heavy Equipment
The fatal incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, on Interstate 45 near FM 517. Authorities identified the victim as 46-year-old Dislay Manuel Diaz Reburedo, an experienced construction worker who had been with the company for several months.
Preliminary reports indicate that the boom truck—a large commercial vehicle equipped with a crane for lifting heavy materials—suddenly fell, pinning Reburedo underneath. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the cause of the collapse remains under investigation, this incident highlights the dangers construction workers face daily, particularly when operating or working near heavy equipment in high-risk areas.
The Dangers of Construction Work in Texas
Texas is one of the deadliest states for construction workers, with Houston leading in work-related fatalities. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), at least 100 construction workers lose their lives on the job in Harris County each year—a statistic that far exceeds national averages.
Heavy equipment plays a critical role in construction, but also poses significant risks when improperly used, maintained, or manufactured. Unfortunately, most heavy equipment accidents are entirely preventable.
While negligence is a leading cause of heavy equipment accidents, defective machinery, inadequate maintenance, and intentional misconduct can also contribute to deadly incidents.
Common causes of accidents involving heavy machinery include:
- Backup accidents
- Inadequate maintenance
- Failing to inspect equipment and machinery
- Rollover accidents
- Failing to follow safety procedures and regulations
- Defective equipment and machinery
- Being caught in between, underneath, or inside heavy equipment
- Dropped loads and materials
- Machinery entanglement
- Negligent conduct by the operator, including alcohol/drug use, operating machinery when fatigued/drowsy, and distractions while operating machinery
- Failure to train and/or supervise employees adequately
- Using equipment and machinery for uses other than its intended use
- Collisions with heavy equipment
If you or a loved one were harmed by another party’s careless actions or wrongdoing, you deserve justice. Holding employers, manufacturers, contractors, or operators accountable can help prevent future tragedies and provide the compensation you need to move forward.
