Three workers were injured yesterday morning when a propane tank exploded at the Alamo Group manufacturing plant in Seguin, Texas.
Alamo Group Explosion Erupted During Forklift Refueling
The June 25th explosion occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. at the Alamo Group facility located in the 600 block of North State Highway 123 Bypass in Seguin. Officials have since characterized the blast as a flash fire that erupted while a tank on a propane-powered forklift was being refueled.
“A fire occurred during the process of servicing a propane-powered forklift that resulted in injuries to three of our employees who were working in the area at the time,” Alamo Group – Texas President Keith Forcinito told the Seguin Gazette.
2 Seguin Plant Explosion Victims Transferred to Burn Center
All three workers injured in the Alamo Group explosion were taken to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in personal vehicles. However, two were later transferred to a burn center.
So far, none of the workers have been identified, and additional information regarding their current condition or the seriousness of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Faulty Component Suspected in Alamo Group Explosion
The Texas Railroad Commission and the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration are investigating the Alamo Group explosion.
While the official cause has yet to be determined, a preliminary probe suggests the failure of an unspecified component may have triggered the blast.
“Once the component failed, an unknown ignition source ignited the propane,” said Seguin Fire Marshal Greg Dreiss, according to the Gazette. “It essentially was a small explosion and a small fire, but it didn’t do any physical damage to the building or equipment. The fire didn’t continue once the tank was evacuated.”
