A pedestrian died tragically Tuesday, after being hit by an out-of-control 18-wheeler along I-20 near Colorado City, in Mitchell County, Texas.
18-Wheeler Swerved to Avoid Earlier Accident
According to a preliminary report filed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on February 20th.
An 18-wheeler driven by a 55-year-old El Paso man was traveling west on I-20, when it swerved to avoid an earlier crash. The rig then drove into a barrow ditch on the side of the road.
Pedestrian Died at Scene, Another Transported to Hospital with Severe Injuries
Skyler H. Anderson, 32, of Gilmer and Oscar A. Garcia, 65, of Dallas, had been involved in the previous accident and were standing in the ditch. Both were struck by the 18-wheeler.
Anderson died at the scene.
Garcia was transported to a Lubbock hospital with critical, incapacitating injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
