An oilfield worker was tragically killed last Thursday afternoon when a high-pressure valve failed on a Sendero oil rig in Texas’s Permian Basin.

Deputies from the Andrews County Sheriff’s Department were called to Sendero Rig 103, a drill site located off State Highway 176, roughly 14 miles outside the city of Andrews, at approximately 4:48 p.m. on December 12th. According to a report published Monday at MRT.com, first responders were already at the site of the Sendero oil rig accident and giving CPR to the 35-year-old worker. He was taken to the Permian Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
It’s unclear if the victim was an employee of San Angelo, Texas-based Sendero Drilling Company or an outside contractor. However, Andrews County Sheriff Charles R. Stewart later confirmed that the deceased had been working on a line when the high-pressure valve failed, generating a “big impact.” He could not confirm where the valve had struck the worker.
“There was a crew there, and witness statements were taken,” Stewart told MRT.com. “Autopsy reports are pending.”
The fatal accident remains under investigation.
