Three people died tragically yesterday afternoon when an 18-wheeler lost part of its load and triggered a fiery multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 10 in Saguin, about 36 miles from San Antonio, Texas.
18-Wheeler Swerved to Avoid I-10 Work Crew
The August 26th accident occurred shortly before :300 p.m., as an 18-wheeler hauling meat products headed east on Interstate 10 at the State Highway 123 Bypass overpass. The rig swerved to avoid a Texas Department of Transportation crew working on the side of the highway and lost a portion of its load, slickening the roadway.
A second eastbound 18-wheeler lost control as it drove through the meat, crashed into the concrete barrier, and burst into flames. The truck’s cab careened over the barrier while its trailer remained on the highway.
Four passenger vehicles were caught up in a secondary crash, with each catching fire.
Saguin 18-Wheeler Crash Victims Remain Unidentified
Seguin Police have confirmed three fatalities but have yet to identify any of the victims. It’s not clear if anyone else was hurt or hospitalized.
Law enforcement and highway crews shut down the interstate and the bypass while firefighters put out the flames. Although the westbound lanes of I-10 reopened about an hour later, the eastbound lanes and the State Highway 123 Bypass intersection were closed for several hours as officers investigated the wreck, cleared the area, and inspected the bridge for damage.
The deadly accident remains under investigation.
