Two truckers were hospitalized Wednesday morning after their 18-wheelers were involved in a major crash along U.S. Highway 287 near Stratford, Texas.
Both Semi-Trucks Erupted in Flames
The April 28th accident on the northbound side of U.S. 287 occurred sometime before 11:00 a.m. One of the semi-trucks was parked on the shoulder about six miles south of Stratford when it was struck by the second 18-wheeler. Both rigs then erupted in flames.
The northbound lanes along that stretch of U.S. 287 were closed for hours, with authorities declaring the collision a “major traffic accident.”
1 Trucker in Critical Condition After Stratford 18-Wheeler Accident
Both truckers were able to escape their burning vehicles and were rushed to a hospital in Amarillo.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of the second 18-wheeler suffered life-threatening injuries and was last listed in critical condition. They have not released any information on the other trucker or disclosed his most recent condition.
The Stratford 18-wheeler crash remains under investigation.

Truckers also ranked first for deaths among independent workers in 2018, with 96 fatalities.
The occupants of large trucks accounted for 4.7% of all traffic fatalities reported in Texas that year, among the highest rates in the nation.
