Trucker Charged with “Accident Involving Death”
The 18-wheeler driver, a resident of Laredo, Mexico, attempted to flee the scene. He was subsequently apprehended with the help of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Accident Involving Death.
Under Section 550.021 of the Texas Penal Code, Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death, any driver involved in a crash that’s likely to result in injury or death must stop, determine whether anyone was hurt, and call 911 if needed.
Drivers who fail to stop face a second-degree felony when the crash results in a death or a third-degree felony in the case of serious injury. Charges can be levied against any driver involved in an accident, regardless of fault.
