Law enforcement authorities are searching for an 18-wheeler driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident in Waco, Texas last Friday night.
Waco Hit-and-Run Crash Left 1 Dead, Another Critically Injured
The April 24th crash occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. at East Loop 340 and Idylwood Lane. While it’s not clear exactly what happened, it appears the violent collision involved a 4-door sedan and semi-truck.
According to Waco Police Officer Garen Bynum, first responders arriving on scene found one person dead and another trapped inside the car. Firefighters spent an hour working to free that individual before paramedics transferred the critically injured victim to a local hospital.
18-Wheeler Driver Fled Waco Crash Scene on Foot
Waco Police have not revealed the names of the victims pending family notification.
The 18-wheeler driver was nowhere to be found and apparently fled the scene on foot. Local media reports indicate the unidentified trucker has yet to be located.

Texas Hit-and-Run Accidents
According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, Texas recorded 233 hit-and-run crashes that involved at least one fatality in 2016 – the eighth highest in the nation.
Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense in the Lone Star State.
Cases that involve serious injury or death are considered third-degree felonies, punishable by 2-to-10 years in state prison. Perpetrators face up to one year in a county jail or up to five years in a state prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000 when the resulting injuries are not serious.
Leaving the scene of an accident that causes less than $200 in vehicular damage is a Class C felony, punishable by a fine of up to $500. Damage in excess of $200 raises the charge to a Class B felony, punishable by up to six months in a county jail.
