The January 10th accident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m., as a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling north on Farm-to-Market Road 1208, just east of Midland.
For reasons that remain unclear, the pickup truck drifted to the wrong side of the roadway and collided with the Cub Cadet tanker truck. The vehicles were quickly engulfed in flames and both drivers died at the accident scene.
The Texas Department of Public Safety later identified the pickup driver as a 30-year-old Midland man, while the oilfield truck driver was identified as a 44-year-old man from Miami, Florida. Houston Truck Accident Attorney today.
Midland County Oilfield Truck Accidents
Last Friday’s fatal accident was the second deadly crash in Midland County so far this year. According to the Telegram-Reporter, Midland County motor vehicle accidents killed 26 people last year and 44 in 2018.
Midland County also recorded the third highest number of fatal crashes involving 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles in Texas during 2018, with 16 deadly accidents. Three counties in TXDot’s Odessa District also made the top 10 that year – Ector, Reeves, and Winkler.
Traffic – including thousands of new oilfield trucks – has increased significantly throughout the Odessa District since the current Permian Basin drilling boom got underway in 2016. Commercial vehicle accidents have risen nearly 160% in just the past three years, while the number of fatal trucking-related crashes increased 122% during the same period.
Although just 2% of Texas residents call the Odessa District home, the region now accounts for 11% of the state’s traffic fatalities.
