Three people were hospitalized early this morning, after a charter bus from Matamoros, Mexico crashed along Interstate 69 in Rosenberg, Texas.
Transportes del Norte Bus was Bound for Tennessee
The Transportes del Norte charter bus left Matamoros just five hours earlier, with 31 passengers headed to contract jobs in Tennessee.
Sometime around 5:30 a.m., the vehicle struck a guardrail in the northbound lines of I-69, near the exit for State Highway 36.
Passengers Escaped Heavily Damaged Bus by Rear Door
Most passengers were asleep at that hour, and the force of the crash threw many to the floor.
“I woke up when I felt the bus move,” one passenger told ABC13. “I heard the glass break and heard everyone screaming.”
The collision caused extensive damage to the front of the bus, forcing all those aboard to escape by the rear door.
Charter Bus Driver, 2 Passengers Taken to Hospital
Paramedics transferred two passengers and the charter bus driver to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.
While many of the remaining passengers had bloody noses, cuts, and bruises, they later boarded a second bus and continued their journey to Tennessee.
Rosenberg Charter Bus Crash Investigation Underway
Although it’s not clear what caused accident, police have suggested the driver was trying to exit the interstate when he struck the guardrail.
The Rosenberg charter bus crash remains under investigation.
