Two people were hospitalized last night after a FedEx delivery truck collided with a Greyhound Bus along Interstate 59 in Birmingham, Alabama.
FedEx Truck Struck Greyhound Bus After Crossing Median
The June 7th accident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m., as the Greyhound Bus was traveling south on I-59 near Roebuck. According to Birmingham Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jackie Hix, the FedEx truck was traveling in the opposite lanes when it crossed the center median at the 4th Avenue South exit.
The truck then collided with the bus and a Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department vehicle also headed south.
FedEx Delivery Truck Might Have Hydroplaned
While it’s not clear exactly what led up to the accident, Hix suggested the FedEx vehicle might have hydroplaned just before crossing the median.
A Greyhound passenger and a sheriff’s deputy were injured in the crash. Both were taken to a local hospital in stable condition and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident shut down I-59 South for several hours on Monday night. Around 25 Greyhound passengers waited at the scene for another bus to transport them to their final destination.
